A. The Military Oath and Lawful Orders

Every member of the active or reserve military, whether enlisted, warrant officers, or commissioned officers, must swear or affirm the following, legally binding oath:

“I [full legal name] do solemnly swear [or affirm] this will uphold and defend the Rights of the American People, and that I will do so with full regard and faith to the National Charter of the United States of America. I will defend the People against all enemies, foreign and domestic. I will bear them true faith and give them my allegiance. I will obey the lawful orders of the President and the officers appointed over me according to the laws and regulations of the National Charter and Congress. I understand this oath [or affirmation] is binding and that I will be held legally to what I am swearing [or affirming].”
