Appendix: Citation Guide

How This Charter Is Organized:

  • Articles (Roman numerals: I, II, III...)

  • Sections (Numbers: 1, 2, 3...)

  • Subsections (Capital letters: A, B, C...)

  • Clauses (Numbers: 1, 2, 3...)

  • Subclauses (Lowercase letters in parentheses: (a), (b), (c)...)

  • Paragraphs (Subscript numbers when needed, within the parentheses with the subclause the paragraph belongs to, if abbreviated: ₁, ₂, ₃... (a1), (a2), (a3)…)

How To Cite Provisions:

Full Format - Spell out each level:

Example: Article I, Section 2, Subsection B, Clause 2, Subclause (a), Paragraph 1

Short Format - Abbreviate after section:

Example: Article I, Section 2.B.2(a1)

Examples:

  • Article III, Section 1, Subsection A → Article III, Section 1.A

  • Article I, Section 4, Subsection A, Clause 3, Subclause (b) → Article I, Section 4.A.3(b)
